It’s that wonderful time of the year; engagements are in full swing and girls everywhere are getting ready to plan their wedding! There are many components to consider in preparation for your wedding and obviously one of the most important is THE DRESS!  And finding the one that will make you look the most beautiful and unique on your special day is probably at the forefront of your mind.
In designing a wedding dress, there are important things to take into consideration. One of the first things to think about is the silhouette of the dress. On fashion runways, wedding-dress trends appear to be demonstrating: less is more.  Dresses that are mermaid, sheath, or trumpet gowns are what is being seen now.  Shapes that are form fitting, body conscious, that mix a little sexy with celebrity, but are still tasteful and classic are in fashion. Of course the ball gown is not going to be discontinued anytime soon, so for the girls that want the princess look on their wedding day, do not worry, they’re always in style.

One factor that can determine the feel of your dress is the hemline.  Modern, romantic, vintage, or classic style dresses can have very different aesthetics. Traditional gowns are long and have a classic look, but if you are an edgier bride, higher hemlines are in style.  Cocktail-length dresses add some fun and are more modern.  A dress that is short in front and long in the back can look beautiful and romantic.
If you are looking for something a little more sentimental, a great idea is to bring in a vintage wedding dress that has been in your family, or worn by someone you love, and have it custom tailored, or have a new dress designed by taking inspiration from the old.

One detail that is very important is color, which you can use as an accent throughout your wedding.  Having little details like jewelry, veil accents, and shoes can be a cute yet discrete way to show your colors.  For a more noticeable approach, an option could be matching the bridesmaid’s dresses to the color of your sash and bouquet.
When picking-out your dress, don’t forget the accessories! Some of the more popular trends are cage veils, an alternative to the more traditional veil, and they can be accentuated with flowers, feathers, or sparkles. These accents were popular in the past and are making a huge comeback, a favorite at Anglo Couture.  Jewelry is another great way to glamorize, and adding the right pieces to an understated dress can look gorgeous!  Jewelry does not have to be just worn anymore, be creative–you can include your jewelry as part of your dress, or even a part of your bouquet.

What ever your choices, remember to add your personal touch in everything, stick with what is comfortable for you, and don’t forget to take it all in because it will fly by! The wedding dress that is best for you is the one that tailors to your qualities. There are so many options and variations of how to create you dress, all it takes is some research and creativity and you will surely come out with something beautifully befitting you.

About Vicky Anglo

"I was born and raised in Athens Greece. Growing up in an artistic environment with my father being a sculptor, it just came natural to me to follow his artistic path. Having a good eye for fashion, the decision to become a wedding dress designer was at about the age of 13 when I viewed a bridal Fashion Show. With a background in Fine Arts, I attended Newbury College in Boston MA, choosing fashion design as my major. After graduating, I gained hands on experience working as a designer for a bridal accessory company. I enjoyed every minute and I fell in love even more with the industry. My favorite part is working with the brides and being able to create different styles depending on each bride’s vision. Everyone is different, and I feel that every woman should be able to express and feel exactly who she wants to be on her special day. That is my true inspiration and that's how Anglo Couture was born."
