Wedding Design With A Twist

After being in the wedding industry for over 12 years and having read hundreds of wedding magazines, it is my opinion that wedding magazines have become simply boring to me.  I feel as though we have seen everything they have to offer and spark little interest for new and different ideas.

In the past few months I have started to pull inspiration from a new outlet– home décor and fashion magazines.  If you have ever watched “Project Runway”, glanced through an issue of Vogue or House Beautiful you will notice very similar things.  Fashion and Home Design often play off each other and the wedding design industry is following that trend.

Currently one popular trend in home décor is mixing and matching vintage, classic items with the rustic- crystal and reclaimed wood.  Pick up the latest issue of the Pottery Barn catalog and you will see a great example.  Fashion magazines are mixing greys and browns (crystal and wood).  Similarly, wedding magazines are starting to follow these same trends

The “IT” place now for upcoming wedding trends is in fashion and home décor.  Wedding magazines are still a fabulous resource for etiquette and dress design, but for inspiration in reception design turn to “where it’s at”–fashion and home décor.
